Hippo Video: A Pleasant Recap of 2018 and Our Growth Plans for 2019

As the Co-founder and CEO of Hippo Video, I’m often asked how the company is doing and our growth plans for each quarter. That’s why I’m writing a recap of 2018 to keep you updated. Most importantly, I’ll end the blog by sharing our exemplary vision for 2019 and besides that, there is a little surprise that’s in store for you.

To begin with, we had a lot of work to do in 2018 – grow the business, drive customer success, innovate, and lead the market. We refocused our product strategy, grounded in customer understanding and market insights. We also have driven clarity in our product strategy and quickened the pace of our product improvements and innovation. All this enabled us to deliver some great wins for the customers. Highlights of 2018

Q1: Funding and Growth

The year 2018 started with breathtaking traction from our users and raising Pre Series A funding from Kae Capital. Hippo Video was positioned as an online Video-as-a-Service (VaaS) platform and, our USPs included online video creation, editing, and contextual integration with Freshdesk, Zendesk, Google Suite, and more. Hippo Video lined up a customer base of 30,000 users globally, with a bulk of the users based in the US.

Q2: Feedback From Customers

It didn’t stop there. We were listed among the Top 20 Video Editing Softwares in 2018 by G2Crowd. Certainly, another great way to have started our Q2.

We interacted with our customers, understood their strategies, learned what works for them and what doesn’t, got their feedback to create an engaging and a customer-centric video platform for businesses.

Hippo Video was already heeding the call; by creating opportunities for marketing, sales and, support professionals to drive brand awareness, generate leads and close more deals with powerful videos.

Q3: Pivoted from Screen Recording Tool to Video Marketing Platform

Many of our customers realized the importance of including videos in their marketing and sales funnel and approached us to host and track their video performance. That’s when it dawned upon us to re-imagine video marketing.

Hippo Video pivoted from being a screen recording tool to a cloud-based Video Marketing Platform (VMP) for businesses to leverage videos for brand outreach, lead generation, email campaigns, and more, all within a single platform.

Q4: Delivering Video Marketing Platform to our Customers

We ran an experiment by sending personalized video introductions in our sales outreach process that changed our sales strategy. It gave us a 300% increase in email response rates. I shared our success with Tech in Asia along with other SaaS founders, which got published online, titled ‘5 Founders Share 5 Sales Strategies for SaaS Startups.’

We were also featured in G2Crowd  quadrants under two categories and that too within 3 months of rebranding Hippo Video into a Video Marketing Platform.

In the Video Hosting category, we are listed among the “Top 10 Video Hosting Software Products” and “Top 9 Easiest to Use Video Hosting Software” based on user satisfaction score. 

In the Video CMS category, we are listed among the “Top 6 Video CMS Software” and “Top 4 Easiest to Use Video CMS Software” based on user satisfaction scores. 

Currently, Hippo Video has a clientele of 500+ businesses, who run their video strategy on Hippo Video. With our recent rebranding efforts, Hippo Video aims to put enterprise video marketing tools in the hands of every business.

Hippo Video: Growth Plans For 2019

Global consumer internet video traffic will account for 80% of all consumer internet traffic in 2019. Few companies have already started using videos in different stages of their marketing and sales funnels. Companies have adopted video communication to personalize their pitch. With Hippo Video, marketing and sales teams will be able to create personalized video campaigns and 1-2-1 personal videos, and follow-up easily, based on the video performance.

Personalized videos can be useful in maximizing email marketing conversions for campaigns. Such personalization techniques will merge data and video to deliver exceptional experiences that wow customers, and produce higher ROI.
